Need some motivation? Come see… :o)

So, I have been trying to stay motivated EVERY SINGLE DAY for the past two weeks and I feel that being on Buddyslim, reading people’s blogs, and watching the Biggest Loser has really helped me! I’m sure most of you can say the same…

I have also come to find many motivating websites with before and after weight loss success stories as well. I found one where you can choose the weight loss category such as:

This is nice because it allows you to see before and after pictures of people just like you who need to lose around the same amount of weight! I think it always gives me a little kick in the rear to stay focused. If these people have worked so hard, why can’t I? Visit the site I posted below and see for yourselves! :o) Very motivating to see such hard work pay off for these people! What have YOU done today to stay motivated???

Drinking Water & Weight Loss

Just browsing some articles online and found this one first, it really sums up why drinking water is so good for weight loss! I drink 3/4 to a Gallon a day that’s three or four  32-oz. Nalgene water bottles. I aim for that….Just thought I’d give all you buddies a little insight into the world of water! :o)

Why Drinking Water Really is the Key to Weight Loss

by Maia Appleby

Don’t roll your eyes! The potion for losing that excess body fat is all around you. It covers two thirds of the planet. If you eat right and exercise at the intensity, frequency and duration proper for you, but still can’t get rid of a little paunch here and there, you’re probably just not drinking enough water.

No need to get defensive. You’re actually quite normal. Most people don’t drink enough water. Most people are also carrying around a few more pounds than they would be if they did drink enough water. If you can’t seem to get that weight off, try drowning your sorrows in nature’s magical weight-loss mineral. It works, and here’s why:

“What on Earth is ‘metabolism’, anyway?” People use the term all the time, but ask them what it means and you’ll get all kinds of answers. Merriam Webster defines it as, “The process by which a substance is handled in the body.” A little vague, but that’s really all it means.

There are many forms of metabolism going on in your body right now, but the one everyone is talking about it the metabolism of fat. This is actually something that the liver does when it converts stored fat to energy. The liver has other functions, but this is one of its main jobs.

Unfortunately, another of the liver’s duties is to pick up the slack for the kidneys, which need plenty of water to work properly. If the kidneys are water-deprived, the liver has to do their work along with its own, lowering its total productivity. It then can’t metabolize fat as quickly or efficiently as it could when the kidneys were pulling their own weight. If you allow this to happen, not only are you being unfair to your liver, but you’re also setting yourself up to store fat.

“I’ve tried it and I couldn’t stand it!” The problem is that, though many decide to increase their water intake, very few stick with it. It’s understandable. During the first few days of drinking more water than your body is accustomed to, you’re running to the bathroom constantly. This can be very discouraging, and it can certainly interfere with an otherwise normal day at work. It seems that the water is coming out just as fast as it’s going in, and many people decide that their new hydration habit is fruitless.

Do take heed , though. What is really happening is that your body is flushing itself of the water it has been storing throughout all those years of “survival mode”. It takes a while, but this is a beautiful thing happening to you. As you continue to give your body all the water it could ask for, it gets rid of what it doesn’t need. It gets rid of the water it was holding onto in your ankles and your hips and thighs, maybe even around your belly. You are excreting much more than you realize. Your body figures it doesn’t need to save these stores anymore; it’s trusting that the water will keep coming, and if it does, eventually, the flushing (of both the body and the potty) will cease, allowing the human to return to a normal life. It’s true. This is called the “breakthrough point.”

One recent finding, as irresponsible as it may be, that caffeine increases the body’s fat-burning potential has many people loading up on coffee before going to the gym. This finding may hold some degree of truth in it, but caffeine is, in essence, a diuretic, and diuretics dehydrate. Caffeine may increase the heart rate, causing a few more calories to be burned, but this is at the expense of the muscles, which need water to function properly. This isn’t doing your heart any favors, either. It’s already working hard enough during your workout. Never mix caffeine and exercise. In fact, your best bet is to stay away from caffeine all together. It’s a big bully that pushes your friend water out of your system.

Water is the best beauty treatment. You’ve heard this since high school, and it’s true. Water will do wonders for your looks! It flushes out impurities in your skin, leaving you with a clear, glowing complexion. It also makes your skin look younger. Skin that is becoming saggy, either due to aging or weight loss, plumps up very nicely when the skin cells are hydrated.

In addition, it improves muscle tone. You can lift weights until you’re blue in the face, but if your muscles are suffering from a drought, you won’t notice a pleasant difference in your appearance. Muscles that have all the water they need contract more easily, making your workout more effective, and you’ll look much nicer than if you had flabby muscles under sagging skin.

“Eight glasses a day? Are you kidding?!” It’s really not that much. Eight 8-ounce glasses amount to about two quarts of water. This is okay for the average person, but if you’re overweight, you should drink another eight ounces for every 25 pounds of excess weight you carry. You should also up this if you live in a hot climate or exercise very intensely.

This water consumption should be spread out throughout the day. It’s not healthy at all to drink too much water at one time. Try to pick three or four times a day when you can have a big glass of water, and then sip in between. Don’t let yourself get thirsty. If you feel thirsty, you’re already becoming dehydrated. Drink when you’re not thirsty yet.

Do you think water is yucky? Drinking other fluids will certainly help hydrate your body, but the extra calories, sugar, additives and whatever else aren’t what you need. Try a slice of lemon or lime in the glass, or if you really think you hate water, try a flavored water. Just make sure you read the labels. Remember that you’re going to be consuming a lot of this fluid.

It’s probably a good idea to stop drinking water a good three hours before you go to bed. You know why.

“How cold should it be?” This is debatable. Most experts lean toward cold water, because the stomach absorbs it more quickly. There is also some evidence that cold water might enhance fat burning. On the other hand, warmer water is easier to drink in large quantities, and you might drink more of it without even realizing it. Do whatever suits you, here. Just drink it!

When you drink all the water you need, you will very quickly notice a decrease in your appetite, possibly even on the first day! If you’re serious about becoming leaner and healthier, drinking water is an absolute must. If you’re doing everything else right and still not seeing results, this might just be what’s missing.

Interesting huh? :o)

I’m Back, AGAIN….

Ok, Ok, so I’m not perfect and I fell into the death trap that I usually fall into after starting a “diet”. After about a month and a half of doing so well and losing 9 pounds, our scale broke, I went back to eating crap food here and there, and not working out enough (only 1-2X a week!). What was I thinking????? SERIOUSLY!!!!! So, after getting so inspired with The Biggest Loser contestants and their results, I have jumped back on the band wagon, and am starting to kick it in the butt again. I am seriously wasting my time by not getting any more progress out of this. Soooooo, I was expecting to have gained back a ton of weight, but I didn’t! I gained a pound, give or take. Mid-February, after a month and a half of doing good I was down to 214.5, I weighed myself on Wed. morning and the new scale said 215.2! THANK GOD!, So I started back with everything on this past Monday, April 27th, and I weighed myself after just two days of eating SUPER good and working out HARD, and I went from 215.2 to 213.8! That’s 1.4 pounds in two days! So, that’s now a total weight loss of 10.2 pounds. Woo Hoo!

So, I need to stay motivated, and I wish that The Biggest Loser could be on EVERY day, but I have to find something in me to motivate myself to keep up with this. Maybe the fact that the neighborhood pool is across the street now…Gotta get in that bathing suit right? Well, hopefully I can do well with this because I am sick and tired of wasting my life being this weight. It is such a waste of time to try and try and try and keep failing because “I’m too tired” or “It’s just one cookie” or every other lame excuse out there. I hope some people can understand what I’m going through because it has been a waste of time trying and failing for the past 3 years or so.

It’s time to do this and get my life together FOR GOOD….

Progress after 1.5 months… :o)

Just wanted to update everyone again on my progress. I am feeling great! Despite the occasional soreness from kicking my butt in the gym and hunger at 9:00pm…. I’m sure you can ALL sympathize with me!

So, I am feeling quite a difference in my overall well-being. I am stronger, mentally and physically…I CAN resist things, but have not deprived myself for special events (aka Super Bowl, Birthdays, etc.) I am eating everything in moderation. If I want a decent dinner, I just moderate my calorie intake that day so I can have a nice dinner, like on Valentine’s Day…that was nice!

Since January 4th I have lost 9.5 pounds…almost to 10!!! YES! I haven’t had this much success since I first lost a ton of weight back in high school. It has always been 4 pounds, or 7 pounds, or 2 pounds, over the period of a few weeks, then I fall off the wagon. Finally it is happening for me and I am “In the zone”. I’m in that mode where I feel guilty for not working out, know how I will feel after a meal if I know it is bad for me, etc. Its mainly a mind-set that is completely conscious of what I’m putting in my mouth and doing for my body…and what a difference it is making.

When I started, I could only do a full plank (for the abs) on my elbows, for about 5-10 seconds. Now I can do a full one on my hands, booty and back straight, for about 30 seconds….pretty big difference. I can also do way more squats than I have ever been able to do, and not get fatigued. Push-ups were non-existent for me…I couldn’t even do “girl” ones on my knees….maybe 2-3 of them, now I can do about 10-15 and feel good. Everything is just getting easier for me.

So, I just thought I would update everyone and say that if you ever screw up and eat something bad, or don’t work out one day, start over the next day. Don’t let yourself fall into a mindset that if you messed up one day, you are done with your journey. Start fresh the next day! No more excuses people! Its time to re-claim your lives and get healthy! Do what you know is right…and get your butt in gear!!!! :o)

At least that’s how I feel! I wish you all luck, and I’ll blog again soon! Toodles!

My Progress…

So I started this whole SERIOUS weight loss journey on January 4th, 2009. After 2-3 years of kidding myself (working out 3X a week and eating fast food & expecting to lose 75 pounds) I have finally, FINALLY become ready for this. Seriously, before I was a total joke. How the heck was I expecting to lose a ton of weight doing minimal workouts and eating crap everyday? I knew I was ready this time. Something just clicked.

I feel so different this time. I actually want to be healthy, not just look good. I am in two weddings this summer, one in June and the other in August, so that is a motivation to want to look good, but I would rather do it to be healthy, and I finally feel like that is my #1 motivator.

I think the support that I have received from family, friends, and my truly AMAZING boyfriend of 5 1/2 years, Zach, has really helped me to achieve my goals thus far! (The Biggest Loser on TV is helping too! LOL) I get constant support of how I’m doing and little congratulations for weight loss, or a really good, hard workout.

So far I have lost about 7 pounds. (since Buddyslim doesn’t do 1/2 pounds and I have lost 6.5, I rounded up…) Hopefully I will see good results this Sunday when I weigh-in for the 4th time! Wish me luck….I think I am going to start blogging more!
